Operation Freeze 2012: Investing in Ontario youth provides positive returns

(Dufferin County, ON) School may be out for the summer, but kids will still have the opportunity to learn from a popular Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) youth program.

Recognizing the importance of supporting a child's thirst for knowledge, Operation Freeze 2012 was developed in partnership with Mac's Convenience Stores encouraging kids to learn that "doing the right thing" is also the "cool thing to do".

OPP ATV Patrol in Waldemar

(Amaranth,ON.)- Ontario Provincial Police Dufferin Detachment officers will conduct All Terrain Vehicle Patrols(ATV) on the Upper Grand Trailway in Hamlet of Waldemar within the Township of Amaranth. These patrols will take place on the July Long Weekend, specifically the June 30,2012.

This Trailway stretches from the Hamlet of Waldemar to the East/West Luther town line on the old abandoned CP rail line which is about 10.5km in length.

OPP Investigate Dog Theft in Mono

(Mono,ON)- On Wednesday June 27th 2012, Dufferin OPP were dispatched to a report of theft of 5 Chihuahua Puppies from a residence on Highway 10 in Town of Mono.

A Preliminary Investigation revealed that between 6:00pm - 6:45pm, unknown female person entered the home on Highway 10 in Mono and stole 5 Chihuahua puppies that are 11 weeks old. Two puppies are black and white, 1 puppy is brown and white, 1 puppy is black and brown and the last puppy is black and light brown.

OPP to Target All Forms of Dangerous Driving Over Canada Day Long Weekend

(Dufferin County, ON ) This coming Canada Day long weekend, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be targeting aggressive drivers, distracted drivers, those not wearing seatbelts and motorists who drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Boaters and All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) riders should also be aware that the OPP marine and trail units will be patrolling waterways and trails throughout Ontario over the long weekend. Three people died last year on OPP-patrolled highways over the 2011 Canada Day weekend. One person lost their life in a marine fatality and another person died in an ATV incident over the same weekend.

OPP Warn of Cougar Sightings in Dufferin County


(DUFFERIN COUNTY, ON.) – Dufferin OPP have received two recent reports of Cougar sightings in Dufferin County.

The first sighting was on June 23, 2012 at approximately 10:00 a.m. on the 7th Line of Amaranth between Dufferin County Rd. #109 and 5th Side road of Amaranth Township.

The second sighting was on June 24, 2012 at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Leader Drive in the Town of Mono.

Being concerned with safety of small pets and child, Dufferin OPP want to share following tips taken from Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources website aimed at preventing conflicts with Cougars.

OPP Release Results Of "Operation Corridor"

(Dufferin County, ON)  With Operation Corridor 2012 wrapping up on June 15, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has released the results of this 24-hour initiative that targeted aggressive commercial drivers and unsafe commercial vehicles.

Over the course of the province-wide campaign, OPP and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) officers laid a total of 372 charges throughout Ontario.

OPP Charge Driver with Dangerous Driving in Rollover Collision


(Mulmur, ON) On Sunday June 10,2012 at approximately 7:17 p.m. Dufferin OPP were dispatched to single vehicle rollover on Airport Road 1 km North of Mansfield in Mulmur Township.

Upon arrival police found a 2007 blue Honda civic 4 door sedan had rolled over into east ditch and was completed destroyed. The three occupants including the driver had minor injuries and were all treated by Dufferin County EMS paramedics and released at scene.

Operation Corridor to Target Commercial Vehicles

(Dufferin County, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and Ministry of the Environment (MOE) are set to launch Operation Corridor, an important annual highway safety initiative targeting aggressive commercial vehicle drivers and those which are unsafe on Ontario's busiest highways.

Operation Corridor begins Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 6:00 a.m. and ends Friday, June 15 at 6:00 a.m. During this 24-hour period, OPP officers will focus on commercial vehicle speed and other aggressive driving behaviours. MTO and MOE inspectors will conduct truck inspections, looking closely for signs of poor maintenance, environmental violations and mechanical problems.

OPP Warn of On Line Loan Insurance Payment Scam


(Dufferin County, ON) Dufferin OPP has investigated two on-line loan scams in last few weeks.

A Dufferin County resident had filled out an online application for a $15,000 loan and two weeks later he was contacted by a male on the phone. The male provided him with a contact phone number.

OPP Caution Public About 9-1-1 Pocket Dials

Primrose, ON (OPP - Dufferin Detachment) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding the public about important but simple steps they can take to avoid what is commonly referred to as "9-1-1 pocket dials".

A pocket-dial occurs when a cellular phone stored in an insecure fashion in places such as pockets, handbags and backpacks inadvertently place calls while being tossed about.

Town of Mono, ON (Mono Community Policing Committee) This month  we can talk about several concerns of mine, one being the use of  special parking permits for disabled people. These permits are issued by a doctor to the person who is disabled and not to the vehicle. I constantly see young, well people using these permits. Carries a heavy fine, by the way!

OPP Charge Aurora Pharmacist With Fraud


Primrose, ON (OPP - Dufferin Detachment) Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Rackets Branch, Health Fraud Investigation Unit have charged an Aurora pharmacist with Fraud as a result of an OPP investigation that revealed that between 2008 and 2010, the pharmacist submitted billings to the Ontario Drug Benefit Plan for drugs that were not dispensed.
