Community Column by Don Butt (October 2021)

Town of Mono ON (Don Butt) When we drive in many of the local towns, we see signs for ROAD WATCH.

I think we should go over what road watch is. It is a govt. and OPP program used all over North America in many jurisdictions. It has worked very well in keeping driving a whole lot safer. Here’s how it works:

The first report coming in to the OPP about dangerous and aggressive driving results in a letter going out to the registered. Plate owner warning about the bad driving and asking them to take action to stop it. The second report on the same plate number will result in a second letter and personal contact from an officer of the OPP. The third report will result in a visit from an OPP officer to the address shown on the license.

We ask that you make the report as complete as possible ; License number, make and colour of vehicle, any attachments (such as trailers, racks, etc.). If your report is not complete, send it in anyway as our people may match it to another incomplete report and still help to reduce bad driving! Watch your driving and safe driving!

Of course the important part of the program is you, when you call the OPP about a bad or reckless driver (numbers below).
