Town of Mono, ON (Don Butt) I guess  it’s not too early to start preparing for winter driving. The first thing is to have a complete Winter Checkup by your mechanic (or do it yourself if so inclined).
Oil and filter change and lube in some cases, check the Prestone and put on your snow tires if not too early. Remember that they now recommend them on all four wheels . This gives you better traction on steering and is than four wheels when braking. Remember to put an extra can of washer fluid in the trunk, along with an emergency  kit if you have one. Put extra scrapers in the door pockets (they sometimes break). and the long handled snow brushes. It is a good plan to carry a car blanket in the winter time. A flashlight is also very handy and these are usually included in an Emergency kit.

The other important thing for winter preparedness is changes to your driving. You cannot drive on ice and snow the same as bare pavement. If you do, see you at then Wreckers!! You should gage your speed to weather and road conditions. Watch for areas where "Black Ice" is often found. On bridges, overpasses, along the side of lakes and  rivers, especially if there is a wind. You cannot see black ice but be prepared or it will get you. On really stormy days with very bad visibility, consider staying off the roads. Your boss would probably rather have you at work tomorrow than be faced with finding a replacement. If you are contemplating buying a car, consider that light colours are hard to see in wintertime (white, beige, light grey). Also consider ABS brakes, they can be a lifesaver!! Safe driving and take it easy.
