Police Offer Tips Dealing with Door to Door Salespersons

(DUFFERIN COUNTY, ON) – Dufferin OPP are offering the following helpful tips when dealing with door to door salespersons;
  • First, you do not have to deal with a salesperson, or let a salesperson inside your residence.
  • If you tell anyone to leave your property, they must comply.
  • If they don't leave, call police. Don't let the salesperson start their pitch until you have seen photo ID.
  • Get the name of the business and the name of the salesperson.
  • Don't sign on the spot. If the salesperson pressures you to sign on the spot, don't.
  • Shut the door or insist that you need additional time to read and understand the agreement.
Fully understand the agreement before you sign anything;
  • How long does the agreement last?
  • Are there any other costs?
  • Are there fees if you cancel the agreement?
By following these helpful tips residents can become informed consumers.
