OPP Remind Residents of Ongoing Computer Scam

Dufferin County, ON (OPP - Dufferin Detachment) Dufferin OPP are warning the public of an ongoing computer scam.  In recent weeks OPP have received reports that a computer company by name of Windows Technological Company with a phone number of 206-771-6723 has been trying to gain remote access to victim’s computers.  They are trying to confuse victims into to thinking they are part of Microsoft Brand of computer technology.

In one incident suspects placed multiple calls to victims trying to gain permission to have remote access to personal computers of victims.  The victims were smart enough not to give in and hung up on suspects.

Police are warning never give out passwords or access to computers to strangers unless it through a reputable internet provider. Once thieves have access to your computer they can access private banking and personal information this can lead to theft of funds and identity theft.

Police also recommend computer users change their passwords monthly to prevent unauthorized access to personal information and private emails.
