OPP and Policing Partrners Kick-off Canada Road Safety Week
“This campaign is a strong collaboration with our policing partners to stop and heighten awareness about the deadliest high-risk behaviours on our roads,” said OPP Deputy Commissioner Larry Beechey, Traffic Committee Chair, Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. “During the campaign, we are counting on roads users throughout the country to help us work toward the vision of the Canada Road Safety Strategy 2015, which is to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world,” added Beechey.
➢ Impaired driving remains the number one criminal cause of death in Canada.
➢ Motorists are 23 times more likely to become involved in a collision while texting.
➢ Aggressive driving behaviour is present in 27 per cent of fatal collisions in Canada.
➢ Proper seat belt usage is the most significant factor in preventing injuries and deaths in a collision.
