Mild Weather and Rain Prompts OPP Warning

(Dufferin County, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning the public to exercise extreme caution near any surfaces that may appear to be frozen. With the mild weather over the past few days and the forecast for rain, ice conditions are beginning to deteriorate and areas of open water are becoming visible.

This past weekend, a 40-year old Midland man lost his life on Canal Lake, west of Kirkfield after his snowmobile plunged through the ice. Three other snowmobilers came to his rescue and their snowmobiles also fell through the ice.
The male was later located deceased by members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue Unit.

The advice of the OPP is very simple as at this time “No Ice, is Safe Ice”. Please follow this very important public safety message as any ice related rescue has the potential to put the lives of many first responders at great risk.
