Two Drivers Arrested at R.I.D.E. Spot-Checks

(Mono/Amaranth, ON.) – Dufferin OPP were kept busy over this past weekend arresting 2 impaired drivers at area R.I.D.E. programs.

On Sunday January 20, 2013 at approximately 1:15 a.m. Dufferin OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at the intersection of 3rd Line and 5TH Side Road in the Town of Mono. Police stopped a 2007 Dual wheel GMC C75 Truck equipped with a sander. Officers detected an odour of alcohol. The male driver provided a suitable sample and registered a “fail” on a roadside screening device.

As a result 30 year old Kenneth SHELLEY of Mono, Ontario has been charged with Operate Motor Vehicle over 80 mgs of alcohol. He will appear in Orangeville Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

On Sunday January 20, 2013 at 10:28 p.m. Dufferin OPP officers were again conducting a R.I.D.E. program at the intersection of 20th Side road and Mono-Amaranth Town-line in Amaranth Township. Police stopped a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup and officers detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. The male driver provided a suitable sample and registered a “fail” on a roadside screening device.

As a result 37 year old James Jason Gordon of Mono, Ontario was arrested and charged with Operate motor vehicle over 80mgs of alcohol and Possession of Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. He will appear in Orangeville Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. Both drivers were issued 90 day administrative drivers license suspensions.

Officers conducted 4 R.I.D.E. Programs on January 20,2013 and checked 152 vehicles,conducted 5 roadside tests for alcohol consumption and issued two 3 day drivers license suspensions.
